Sensory Illusions: Optical, Audible, etc...

This one took me a while and my brain still can't see it right until I force it to

A good example of "big" being a psychological interpretation of size relative to what's around it. Arnold Schwarzenegger is 6'2" and one Mr. Universe in body building. But Wilt Chamberlin was 7'1" and Andre the Giant 7'5"...Punny Arnie.

Another good example of how your brain doesn't perceive the truth. These two tables are the same size, just rotated. Stupid brains.

This picture is black and white, but the colored checkerboard lines make it seem like a color picture.

This might be my single favorite illusion of Brightness Constancy. Square A and Square B are the same color: exactly the same. Try holding paper over the other squares to see. Some people have even printed it so they could place a cut out over it to test it, others have used photoshop to take samples of both colors to compare. A and B are honestly the same color, it's so compelling and there's really no way to make your brain see it correctly.

Our brains tell us what we think we should see

The Penrose Stairs. Or and Escherian Stairwell. I love this illusion, it's my favorite by M.C. Escher. Look him up.

I simple version of the Penrose Stairs...one direction is up forever, the other down forever. It's impossible in real life. Don't believe the silly YouTube Video about RIT
