Intro to Sociology Unit
This unit introduces Sociology as topic and gives an overview of some of it's main theories: Conflict Theory, Functionalism, and Symbolic Interactionalism.
The middle finger use to mean edgy rebellion, but has popular culture appropriated it to sell a message of rebellion to make you want to buy into the image of these two girls so they can sell their products to young impressionable people ? Are they really flipping off their fans (whoever), or just putting out an image?
This guy at Magic Mountain is clearly purposely holding his arms out in a simulation of what some very strong people look like when they walk because their arms actually do stick out like this because of the size of their muscles.
This "distressed" shirt from Kanye West's YEEZY line is expensive. Why would anyone pay this. What does this tell of about certain groups of society and do other groups have their own versions of something like this?
Why does this Dr. pay money every year to have a personal license plate that says something he already knows on it: that he's a Yale Doctor. How do other people communicate things about themselves (sports fan shirts, band shirts, certain styles, the type of things they buy, drive or wear in general?)
