Videos: CP Growth & Development Unit -4

"Born good? Babies help unlock the origins of morality." These experiments seem to support that babies are born with an affinity for people that help and are kind, which in turns help their survival. For what we call "good" is good in the sense that it allows us to reproduce and continue the species.

"Can Babies Tell Right From Wrong? " Studies showing babies preferring kind characters. These studies are to show morality's origins in humans. You don't learn the basics of morality, you are born with them: attraction to kindness, a sense of empathy, and more.

"Attachment Theory." This video is about attachment theory often associated with Mary Ainsworth.

"Harry Harlow Monkey Experiments on Love." Harry Harlow did a lot of interesting (and sad) experiments on baby monkeys deprived of their natural mother to see how they would bond with different surrogate mothers. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znBa3lap5jQ

"The Girl In the Window." A look at Dani, a young girl who missed out on her window of development for language and being able to connect and communicate with people due to her mother leaving her left in a room when young. This video shows how important these "critical periods" are for human development when young.

Two videos here on Harry Harry Harlow and his monkey experiments. Both Good.

"Ava." My niece Ave at this age is starting to make stereotypical judgements about what it means to be a girl and a boy. Where she did learn them.

"5 Stages of Grief Giraffe." Adult Swim's funny take on "The 5 Stages of Grief" by Elisabeth Kubler Ross.

"How baby brains develop." Quick video about the development the brains of babies.

"What Makes Teens Tick?" A little bit dated video about the timeless psychology of how teens are different than adults and sometimes hard for adults to understand. A good later part on how to parent effectively in our modern age.

"Are They Twin?" A video about the "other race effect" that makes it hard for many people to distinguish individuals of other races as easily as their own

Good examples of the Cross Race Effect that confuses non-racists and racists alike.

"Piaget's object conservation." Video showing how young children don't understand that a certain quantity will remain the same despite adjustments in size of container, shape of container, etc...

"The Onion: Ten Percent Of U.S. High School Students Graduating Without Basic Object Permanence Skills." Comedy video about teenagers still not having object permanence.
