T.V.
I don't watch that much T.V. and since moving in to my house in 2010 have not even had any kind of T.V. hookup. However, I have had T.V. and so here are some of favorites from my life so far.
Robotech. I recorded episodes on the VCR. My friend's mom was taking all the kids to the beach and I told her than I wouldn't go unless we were home in time for Robotech. She said sarcastically and with judgement, "you won't go the beach with your friends unless you're home for a T.V. show?" "Yes," I replied. It's maybe the first time I ever "stood up" to an adult outside my house. I loved this show, the tech, the battles, and most all the characters... most all (I hated Minmi and Kyle). Macross was the best, but the other two were pretty good too. Just typing this right now makes me want to go watch all 3 seasons. Right above this monitor is a whole bunch of figures and other sentimental things that have been there for quite some time. There is an STi car in full Rally dress, my white belt from the Rickson academy, a pen from when I went skydiving, a D&D figure I painted.......and a blue Veritech like Max (my favorite character) flew. If someone says the name Max to this day, that's who I think of and it's part of the reason why if I had had a boy I would have named him Max.
I was already getting into reading about aliens and the conspiracies surrounding them. I tried to read only the "good stuff" with citations and credible sources. So when this show came out, the timing was eerie. Nevertheless, it was a good show and at UCLA we had a little X-files group that would watch together as we had all watched before college. Even though I really liked this show for some time, it's sad that ultimately the writers didn't seem to know where to go and the plot became more convoluted, silly and lost along the way.
There was a time when I lived alone... I would sit at night at my computer which had a picture in picture monitor. While doing school work I would watch SportsCenter. I could see highlights, listen to opinions and love the whole thing. The boring parts I could just tune out. It was righteous living.
A show recommended to me by friends when I was in H.S. I didn't think I would like it at first, as I don't like sitcoms and really don't watch much T.V., so I barely gave it a try. But as time went on I started to experience it more and more and started to see it wasn't a normal sitcom. The clever writing and plots that wind together along with great characters, both the main characters and the extras. Great, intelligent, ironic comedy.
My favorite show. My wife's favorite show. Funny, touching and sweet. Great cast of characters. Seasons 2-5 are golden, but the rest has some great moments too, especially after investing the time in the first 5 seasons (though you can't just skip season 1). I've seen the whole series twice...I'm sure another run is in the future. Watched them all on DVD.
